SOCINTEGRA has developed a
tactile model of the building of the Latvian Museum of Literature and Music,
which currently hosts the exhibition “Procrastination
and Creation”, together with an audio description of the building and
tactile maps. Through touch, visitors can explore the building’s façade,
understand the location of doors and windows, and, by using a QR code, listen
to an audio description and learn more about the building and its visual
appearance.
SOCINTEGRA Chairwoman Marija Kožarina explains: "Through touch, it is possible to
understand the building’s façade, while a QR code allows visitors to listen to
an audio description and learn about the building’s appearance and colours.
This tactile façade is not only interesting for people with visual impairments
- sighted visitors and children also enjoy exploring it through touch and
listening to the audio description."
Representative of the Latvian
Museum of Literature and Music Liena
Šmukste emphasizes: “It is
important to create an accessible environment in museums because museums are
not intended only for those who can see, hear, smell, or taste. Museums are for
everyone. It is truly valuable that we can create accessibility together. It is
worth taking the time to listen, explore possibilities, and find practical
solutions for implementing accessibility."
We are especially pleased that
in this project we used a new solution for the first time – a tactile map
mounted on a dedicated stand. This makes it possible to place accessibility
solutions even in locations where they cannot be attached to walls.
